General Overview of Forensic Accounting
Forensic Accounting & its applications the word “Forensic” comes from the Latin word “Forensis”, meaning “of the forum”, where the law courts of ancient Rome were held. Today forensic refers to the applications of scientific principles and practices to the adversary process where especially knowledgeable scientists (to be read as “experts’) play a role.
The Concise Oxford Dictionary defines “Forensic” as relating to or denoting the application of scientific methods and techniques to the investigation of crime or relating to courts of law and “Audit” as an official inspection of an organization’s accounts, typically by an independent body. Both put together forensic audit really relates to investigation, examination, calculation of data, creation of evidence in such a manner that it can stand legal scrutiny.
